Lightning Even Series As Nikita Kucherov Sets Franchise Points Record

Sep 25, 2020 8:07 PM

With a pair of first period assists in Game 2, Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov matched -- then surpassed -- Tampa Bay's record for most points in a single postseason.

With 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) Kucherov bettered Brad Richards' franchise record, which was set during the team's 2004 Stanley Cup run. Both of Kucherov's assists on Monday were gorgeous passes, and helped ignite Tampa Bay's slumping power play.

But after leading the Lightning to a 3-2 win over the Stars on Monday, to even the Stanley Cup Final 1-1, Kucherov is still looking for more.

Nathan MacKinnon Wins Lady Byng Trophy For Sportsmanship

Sep 17, 2020 1:44 AM

Nathan MacKinnon wishes he were still playing for the Stanley Cup, but after learning he won another individual award, the Colorado forward found a silver lining.

In the friendly rivalry between the two best hockey players from the Maritimes town of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, MacKinnon can now boast he has won the Lady Byng Trophy that Sidney Crosby hasn't. He also won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year his first season, which Crosby lost to Alex Ovechkin.

"I got the Calder and the Lady Byng now on him," MacKinnon said Friday after winning the award for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct. "That's about it. That's probably all I'll ever get on him."

Flyers center Sean Couturier became the third Flyers player to be chosen as the NHL's top defensive forward when he was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy on Thursday night.

"Obviously over the last few years I've kind of taken my offensive side of the game to another level."

Bruins' Bruce Cassidy Wins NHL's Coach Of The Year Award

Sep 13, 2020 12:39 AM

Bruce Cassidy's wife and kids enjoyed his NHL coach of the year honors more than he did.

Cassidy went back to coaching.

More than a week since his Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs, Cassidy spent time Wednesday after learning he won the Jack Adams Award watching the Lightning and Islanders play Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final. As much as he'd like to still be competing for the Stanley Cup, Cassidy said he keeps his eyes on coaches Barry Trotz and Jon Cooper hoping to pick up a thing or two that could help next season and beyond.

"Just want to watch the game and (A) be entertained and (B) steal some ideas from either side and then watch the coaches a little bit," Cassidy said. "They're two excellent guys, Coop and Barry, that you can learn from every day."
